Start of Visual Development!


Welcome to the first devlog for Cryptic Creek!

Since this is the first game that I am actually creating from start to finish all by myself, I thought it might be nice to start getting into the habit of keeping track of my illustrative work week to week.

This means anyone who's interested will be getting little sneak peeks of what I have in store!

No spoilers, I promise!

BEGINNING OF PRODUCTION

For a basic overview of this visual novel game, it is a half cryptid dating game, half mystery? It's difficult to explain without giving too much away, but I do recommend you look at the tags on the game page to make sure you're in the right place.  And while you're there, read over the synopsis! You'll thank me later since it gives quite a bit of context to my devlog illustrations.

Anyway, without further ado... I give you this weeks progress!

As an illustrator first, whenever I design for a project, I always start with the characters. After all, especially with visual novels, the characters are what the player will be getting attached to the most when they are immersed in this world.

This game will have a full roster of 8 characters (6 of which are romance-able) but I am starting off with the 4 most important characters that affect the plotline.

Their poses are meant to effortlessly display the personalities of each: cheerful, grouchy, mature, and mischievous.

Firstly, I focused on tightening up their silhouettes in greyscale to ensure clean designs before moving on to some color comps. 

Finally I tightened up the designs by polishing the lines and tweaking the colors a bit more... 

We shall keep the final product a secret until later though, so stay tuned~
